Discovery

A Program for Mature Adults with a Young Attitude

The Discovery! Program is designed especially for adults over 50 who share a love for learning. Classes offer new information and skills in a relaxed atmostphere, without the hassle of assignments or tests. Classes and tours are scheduled during the day, usually on weekdays, during the fall and spring semesters. Most classes are held at the Southlake Educational Center in Vernon Hills. Classes begin throughout the semester, some meeting once for a lecture or tour, and others meeting for several consecutive weeks.

Over 30 courses are offered each semester, and course topics vary from the practical to the fun. Listed below are several examples of recurring courses. For a complete listing of courses being offered this semester, with descriptions and dates, please consult a current Discovery! brochure.

Joy of Music - Music Appreciation Series
Laurel Kaiser is the talented and enthusiastic instructor of this very popular series. If you are interested in understanding and appreciating great composers and their music, this class will both instruct and entertain. Topics covered will change each semester.

Introduction to Computers
So you want to learn about computers and your children and grandchildren have tried to teach you but they go too fast! Those voicing that complaint have found step-by-step learning possible in this introductory course. Follow-up classes are also available.
