REAL ESTATE

Are there prerequisites for sales or broker courses?

The state of Illinois does have requirements to qualify to take their state license exams - please visit their website at www.obre.state.il.us for details.

How do I register for Real Estate classes?

If you have never taken a course at CLC before, the first step is to complete an application for admission (short form, no fee) and be assigned a student ID #. This # is required to register for an individual class. See our detailed registration page for more detail.

What is the difference between Sales and Broker licenses?

To become a salesperson in Illinois, you are required to (1) successfully complete an approved prelicense course of 45 hours and (2) pass a state license exam.

We offer the 45 hour class - VVOC 1, Real Estate Transactions & Math.

To become a broker in Illinois you are required to (1) successfully complete a total of 120 hours of prelicense education (can be done by combining the 45 hours of salesperson education with 75 hours of broker education) and (2) pass a state license exam.

We offer the 75 hours of broker education through 5 separate topics, 15 hours each. Broker classes are only offered in the spring and fall semesters

PLEASE NOTE: There are exceptions to who must take prelicense education and who is exempt based on past educational history. Please visit either the OBRE's website (see above) or the state testing agency's website Applied Measurement Professionals for details.

How much do prelicense salesperson course cost?

The 45 hour prelicense salesperson course is $168 (3 credit hours at $52 each plus $6 comprehensive fee for in county residents) for tuition + $40 for a required textbook. Broker classes are $75 per course (total of 5 courses) + supplemental reading materials (approx. $20 per course).

Are these licenses transferable?

The OBRE (Office of Banks & Real Estate) dictates reciprocity for licenses. Visit their website for detailed transfer information.
