Cultivating the Spirit: Ed's Gardens Page
The photos below were taken over the past year (2001-02). An International Education Grant from the College of Lake County enabled me to buy a camera and to fund my visits to these gardens. Click on link to view a slideshow of the gardens. It may take some time for the initial download. Backspace to return to this page.
About these Gardens:

Other Gardens:
Garden Links: An informative site created by Elizabeth Kim as her contribution to a course given at Columbia University, this page provides a simple introduction to what Japanese gardens are about. Bowdoin College hosts this excellent site. In addition to education about Japanese gardens and their history, it features detailed photo tours of famous Zen gardens in Japan. The links page will also take you to some interesting sites on Japanese gardens. This site is part of a project on Chinese culture called A Visual Sourcebook for Chinese Civilization prepared by Patricia Buckley Ebrey. It provides a detailed overview and history of garden design, with sections devoted to the four elements of a Chinese garden--rocks, water, architecture, and plants. It also describes the aesthetic principles and social uses of the garden in China. This is a very interesting and informative site with many pictures. It includes a tour of the Garden of the Master of Nets in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
