PDS 120 Becoming a Successful Student

Test Anxiety Section

College of Lake County

Dr. David Ross, Instructor

This course is designed to allow you to move at your own pace and to focus on the particular needs your you have. If you are taking this class through the College of Lake County for credit purposes (PDS120, Becoming a Successful Student, 1 credit hour), then you are required to complete the following and submit them to Dr. Ross:

 

REQUIRED ACTIVITIES:

Meeting or Telephone Conference with Dr. Ross.Because of the nature of this class it is necessary that you have a personal contact with Dr. Ross. It is preferred that you have a direct personal contact with him in his office at the College of Lake County. However, if that is not possible, a telephone conference is required (847-543-2352)

 

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

To be completed and submitted to Dr. Ross for review.

(SAVE A COPY FOR YOURSELF, AND SEND ONE TO DR. ROSS)

Unit One:

1.Complete the General Relaxation Recording and send a Log Sheet.

2.Complete the School Anxiety Self-Assessment.

Unit Two:

1. Listen to Test Anxiety Step 1 and complete the log sheet.

Unit Three:

1.Listen to Test Anxiety Step 2 and complete the log sheet.

2.Make a study calendar and log and follow it for at least five days.

Unit Four:

1. Listen to Test Anxiety Step 3. Complete the log sheet.

2. Practice the Deep Breathing relaxation method on your own or with the audio tape.

3. Do another study calendar and log and follow it for at least five days.

Unit Five:

1. Listen to Test Anxiety Step 4 and complete the log sheet. 

2. Complete the Reading and Memory Worksheet which involves selecting one active reading and one memory technique to try.

3. Complete the Diet Calendar and Log to be used for discussion in Unit Six.

Unit Six:

1. Listen to Test Anxiety Step 5 and complete the log sheet.

2. Complete the diet log for another 5 days: discuss it with your family.

Unit Seven:

1. Listen to Test Anxiety Step 6 and complete the log sheet. 

2. Write a 10 item practice test from the textbook material or class notes from one of your classes. (no special form has been created, e-mail, fax, or snail mail it to Dr. Ross)

Unit Eight:

1. Repeat Test Anxiety Step 6 (as needed) and complete the log sheet.

2. Complete the "A-B-C" practice worksheet.

 

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

 

Each Unit also has several YOU TRY IT activities. These are for you to have additional practice with the activities found in the unit. You may submit these to Dr. Ross for review.

 

You may also wish to schedule additional appointment times with Dr. Ross
